About

About SafeStackPro

SafeStackPro is an independent resource for freelancers, small businesses, and remote teams looking for honest, practical guidance on the security and productivity tools that keep their work running.

This site is written and maintained by Yassine, who writes about VPNs, password managers, AI tools, and digital security software as a hands-on user, not a professional lab tester — researching each product through official documentation, independent audits, and real user feedback before recommending it. Yassine approaches each review from a practical, everyday-use perspective rather than a formal security-credentialing background.

Our Approach

We compile and synthesize public documentation, vendor specifications, and independent third-party reviews to build clear, honest comparisons. See our full methodology for details on exactly how we research each recommendation.

Why We Exist

Freelancers and remote workers face the same security risks as large companies, often without an IT department to rely on. SafeStackPro exists to close that gap with clear, jargon-free comparisons that help you make a confident decision in minutes, not hours.

How We Make Money

SafeStackPro is supported by affiliate partnerships with some of the tools we recommend. If you purchase through certain links on this site, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. This never influences our actual recommendations.

2026 Freelancer Cybersecurity Checklist

1. Two-Factor Authentication (2FA/MFA): Always use a dedicated authenticator app (e.g., Ente Auth or 1Password) or hardware YubiKey on all critical accounts—never rely on SMS OTP.
2. Dedicated Password Manager: Zero password reuse. Enforce unique, 16+ character random passwords managed through 1Password or Bitwarden.
3. Systematic OS Security Updates: Apply operating system patches (macOS, Windows, iOS, Android) within 48 hours of release.
4. Full-Disk Encryption: Enable FileVault (macOS) or BitLocker (Windows) with your recovery key securely stored offline.
5. Automated VPN on Untrusted Networks: Never connect to public Wi-Fi (cafés, airports, hotels) without an active encrypted tunnel (NordVPN or Proton VPN).
6. 3-2-1 Backup Strategy: Keep 3 copies of your files across 2 different media types, with at least 1 offsite encrypted cloud backup (pCloud or Sync.com).
7. DNS-Level Tracker & Ad Blocking: Enable DNS-over-HTTPS / NextDNS or Threat Protection to block malware and tracking telemetry before it loads.
8. Inactive Session Auto-Lock: Configure your screen lock to activate automatically after 3 to 5 minutes of idle time.
9. Strict Email Attachment Hygiene: Never open unsolicited macro-enabled Office docs or compressed archives from unknown contacts.
10. Separate Work & Personal Profiles: Maintain distinct browser profiles and OS accounts to isolate client credentials and session cookies.
11. FIDO2 Passkey Adoption: Transition to FIDO2 passkeys for cryptographic, phishing-resistant authentication wherever supported.
12. Digital Footprint & Leak Audits: Periodically audit your setup for WebRTC, DNS, and browser fingerprint leaks using SafeStackPro’s free testing tools.
13. Anti-Theft & Remote Wipe: Keep Find My / Remote Device Management active with cryptographic wipe enabled in case of hardware theft.
14. App Permission Pruning: Revoke microphone, camera, and background location permissions from all non-essential applications.
15. Physical Emergency Recovery Kit: Print and seal an offline Emergency Kit with master passphrases and recovery codes in a tamper-evident safe location.
